Aerial Filming & Photography

What type of drone operation do you do?

Filming and photography using a drone (HD, 4k and up to Ultra HD – 5.4k)

Broad aerial filming tasks, opening sequences or set up drone filming for TV programme production

Aerial filming for TV programme production, surveys and inspections, outdoor, rural, environment, content creation

How long have you been established?

Experience across television programme production (camera and sound) spans 15 years which includes camera operation from rotary wing aircraft

Drone flying and filming using drone technologies from 2021

I’m based in East Sussex with flexibility to travel

What drone qualifications do you hold?

I’m registered with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to fly drones in the UK and certified with the CAA – A2 CofC qualification

Are you insured to do commercial drone work?

I am fully insured for drone operation in the UK. Where any commercial work is undertaken then my insurance cover is also extendable to cover a specific job. Insurance cover is through CoverDrone

Are you licenced to operate UAV’s commercially?

My CAA certification – A2 CofC – enables me to undertake commercial work

The drone I have currently has a Hasselblad camera with 1 inch sensor, which can capture still images up to 20Mp and video up to 5K

What drone camera do you use?

What is the flying range for your drone?

To keep within CAA compliance the horizontal flight distance will be up to 500 metres from a drone pilot and maximum altitude from the ground of 120 metres (400ft)

Flight time: This will vary depending on flight distance and weather, normally each flight can be up to 30 minutes. I carry spare batteries if multiple flights are needed

Are you able to fly over open water ?

Flights over water: Flights over water are possible and flights over the sea, however there are added risks to consider for flights over the sea or coastal areas. I’m able to plan for and operate a drone flight over water or mountain areas (Good flight conditions permitting)

Flights from vessels moving across open water need to be given special attention to preparation and planning

What are flight limits for wind, rain and for twilight hours?

Wind limit: is around 25mph, however for a flight of up to 400 ft (120M) above the ground the wind speed and turbulence may be significantly more than it is at ground level which can influence a flight

Rain: It’s not possible to consider a flight in the rain or where weather and air conditions are unsafe to operate or conduct a flight

Night Flight: Night flights are possible, however any flight from or beyond twilight hours requires more detailed planning

Can you fly indoors?

Yes, where there is sufficient unrestricted space then a flight indoors is possible. The drones we use have sophisticated obstacle sensing and avoidance where a GPS signal may not be available indoors

How much do you charge?

Pricing aerial work is done on an individual basis and will consider the complexity and needs of a shoot. Each aerial shoot requires planning, risk assessment, location assessment, permissions, equipment for each job and crew support if needed. All prices are agreed in advance for each shoot

What types of drone flight are you able to do?

Drone flight across or above areas of open ground or water, rural, landscape and estate

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) certification, type of drone, area restrictions, controlled airspace and permissions can be a factor as well as proximity to people buildings, structures, avoiding flights over people, crowds as well as limitations in terms of distance flown and maximum flying height of 400ft or 120metres from a drone home point

What drone camera do you use?

The DJI drone I use currently, is an (Air 2s) which has a Hasselblad camera with 1 inch sensor which can capture still images up to 20Mp and video up to 5.4K

The DJI Air 2S drone is perfect for general aerial photography and video, it’s compact size and light weight makes it very portable for getting to the harder to reach places

I am also able to offer ground based photography
